Over the past six weeks I have been exploring the National Head Start Association and the Office of Head Start. I have found the organization to be very helpful to the Early Childhood Community in reference to parents and early childhood educators such as myself
Head Start promotes the school readiness of young children from low-income families through agencies in their local community. Head Start and Early Head Start programs support the comprehensive development of children from birth to age 5, in centers, child care partner locations, and in their own homes. Head Start services include early learning, health, and family well-being.(https://www.acf.hhs.gov/ohs)
An Outsider

The National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) understands families today can learn anytime, anywhere. Learning is no longer confined to the textbook or inside school walls. We also know that children and adults need to learn in ways that are engaging and relevant to real-life situations.
For 26 years, NCFL has helped improve literacy and lives by engaging all family members—parents, children, caregivers, and extended family members—in reciprocal learning in both place-based and digital environments.

The National Center for Families relate and focus on the whole family unit. Today's families deal with busy schedules and sometimes may not have the time and resources to help their children focus on their educational needs. The organization helps families realize learning cane and will happen anywhere.
I Found It
The NCFL has to other elements of their assistance. The organization concentrates on the following aspects of learning and family support.
- Interactive literacy activities between parents and children.
- Training for parents regarding how to be the primary teacher for their children and full partners in the education of their children.
- Parent literacy training that leads to economic self-sufficiency.
- An age-appropriate education to prepare children for success in school and life experiences.
The National office of Head Start and The National Center for Families are two organizations that are found under one umbrella. They focus on the education of the total child as well as their family and community. They are working together close the gap for the education of children and their families.

I have always wondered, how does one enroll or become involved in/or become aware of Head Start programs? Are they given information based on tax returns or is it a community service outreach program to educate community members of the presence of the program? Thanks, Kaitlyn.
