My Connection To Play

Three Play Quotes that are Important to Me

Three Essential Play Items for my Younger Self

As I relive my childhood I remember how play was important to me. My parents did have a lot of money and my sister's and myself did not visit our friends house so we played together. We had to share our toys which was sometimes hectic. Through this process we have learned the value of sharing, and also how to appreciate each other and the toys we had. As we got older and moved to a more populated neighborhood we started to venture out and visit. We would sleepover to our friends houses or they would come to our houses. We played with our dolls, and we learned how to cook by baking in our easy bake ovens. When we got our bikes we would pretend we were going on trips to the big cities even though we were just riding around the neighborhood. Playing was an essential part of my childhood that laid a positive foundation in my life.

As I compare the way I grew up and how I played to my grandchildren and the children of toady I must say it is totally different. We actually played outside in the dirt and made games from things as simple as a stick and a ball. During the summer we got up, did our chores, ate breakfast  got dress and went outside to play. My grandchildren sleep late, eat, they still have chores but instead of playing outside most of the day they are on their tablets, cell phones and video games. My grad daughter loves finding recipes on the computer such as edible slime and goop. She then makes it with her dad and brothers. They love going to the pool and instead of bikes that they paddle they have remote control riding toys. I work in childcare and I feel that play is sometimes much more violent. My little boys love making guns and shooting each other. I asked them why they make guns they say that is what they do when they play their video games such as Grand theft Auto. I have to redirect them and let them know that we do not play to hurt our friends and that in real life we cannot shoot each other and we must love, respect and help out our fellow man. I then take the time to address this with their parents.

Play is essential to life. We learn so many of life lessons and play sets the foundation that will follow us throughout our lives. We learn how to explore, problem solve. I have found that we must make learning fun in order to engage and hold our students attention.

WE MUST TAKE THE TIME TO PLAY
IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW OLD WE ARE
THERE IS A CHILD IN ALL OF US!!!!!!!!!!
