Three Pictures of Toys from my Childhood
Play In My Day
When I think back to my childhood I must say that play was so essential to me. I had three younger sisters and two younger brothers. My parents were kind of stricted so my sisters were pretty much my playmates. We played outside with each other and we played with our friends when they came over. We used our imagination a great deal. We played teacher, church and we jumped a lot of jump rope games. My brothers were a lot younger so I was more like their second mom because my parents worked. We learned the essential life lessons such as sharing, working together and being nice to one another. we appreciated our toys and we took very good care of them. We played outside a great deal. The things of nature were our toys such as a stick, rocks, water and dirt. We pretended to cook when we made mud pies, used a stick and a ball or sometimes rocks to play baseball. We did a lot of racing games and playing games such as Ring Around the Roses and Duck, Duck, Goose. Our biggest gifts were our bikes and dolls and we got them on special holidays such as Christmas. We truly learned how to play with one another and I play came from imitating the adults in our lives. My parents supported play when we were younger. They often played with us on the weekends and when they were off of work. They took us to the park and watched us until we were ready to go. Those were the good ole days.
Play of Today VS Play of Yesterday
Play of today is so different from play of yesterday. When we were younger we played outside everyday. My grandchildren have other things such as video games, tablets and television that takes the places of play. All of my grandchildren have tablets that they play games on when they get out of school. They also have game systems that take up their outside time. Sometimes the only play that they receive is from Physical Education at school. Times have truly changed from my era of being a child. Electronics have started raising our children. There has been an increase in childhood obesity due to the absences of play. This is a problem that needs to be addressed in our society. We must get back to the basis when it comes to children and play.
WE MUST TAKE THE TIME TO PLAY. IT IS ESSENTIAL TO THE LIVES OF ALL OF US. PLAY IS THE WAY WE LEARN AND LIVE. WHAT WE LEARN AS A CHILD IS ESSENTIAL TO OUR ADULT LIVES AND BEYOND!!!!!!!!
WE MUST TAKE THE TIME TO PLAY
